Welcome Jona!
Hailing from Hamburg, Germany and surrounded by music all his life, we're happy to introduce you to our youngest team member: Jona! Having just finished school, he's now doing an internship in our Hamburg studio and supports our team in all things production. Reason enough to get to know him a little better!
Who or what was your biggest influence in choosing a career in music?
My biggest influence has been my family. My mum was in a band and my dad made music all his life. Over the years I have also been influenced by outside artists. I want people to like me for my music and my emotional expression on stage. So it's two things: family and outside artists.
If you could have dinner with any musician, who would it be and why?
I would have dinner with Bon Iver, Kendrick Lamar, James Blake or James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem. They have influenced me emotionally and sonically. The Mars Volta are also on that list for their incredible skill and emotional impact.
Favorite movie soundtrack or project you wish you did?
I would love to have been Radiohead’s sound engineer. The way they create soundscapes and mix things is amazing. Their sound is bright and sparkly at the top, with clear bass and perfect mids. Playing with The Mars Volta would also be a dream because of their intense skill and natural feel.
What's the most played song on your playlist right now?
The most played song at the moment is my own stuff that I'm working on. My phone is broken, but otherwise it's Radiohead's "Everything in Its Right Place" by Kid A, or Sound Rice's "Bang Your Head Against the Wall EP", which is jungle music with vocals.
What’s your guilty pleasure song that you’re not ashamed to admit you love?
The Kids is recommended.
Do you have any hidden [musical] talents or unique hobbies?
I would be a great drummer because I have a great sense of rhythm. I used to box and play the piano at the same time, despite my instructors’ opposing views. Music helped with sadness, and boxing helped with anger. The only hand injury I ever had was from playing the piano.
What are you most excited about in your role at blut?
I am most excited about the company culture at blut. I feel very accepted and learn a lot while still being part of the creative process. There’s a sense of efficacy where things are handed to you naturally. The creative production work is very exciting, although sometimes the briefs are so specific that not much can be added, like a coloring book.
Welcome to the team Jona!
