Geramont
what we did
Write a piece of German jingle history for a cheese brand? Check. Seven years later, reviving Geramont's sonic identity and giving it a fresh twist by bringing in one of the hottest french newcomer artists? Double check! C'est Si Bon!
how we did it
C’est bon, c’est bon, Geramont, Geramont. A classic in the German advertising scene… and in German pop culture. Anyone who doesn’t know that claim has spent the last 20 years under a rock. Probably. Why is this relevant? Ah yes, because the good people at Geramont decided it was time to give the song a freshen up for a modern audience. The last version (which we’d also done) had been doing the round for about 10 years.
Although the song already existed, we treated it like a new project and developed an array of tracks in modern genres such as singer-songwriter, pop, hip hop, down-tempo and electro, so as not to be too strongly influenced by the original. The original vocals were so iconic and the new track would only be able to hold up to it with an equally impressive performance. Along with working with the original singer, we casted throughout France (and Europe) to find the Geramont voice for the next generation. It was a tough decision, but the voice on the final version belongs to the one and only Angie Robba. Imagine Billie Eilish, but with a French accent. Ooh la la!
But the project wasn’t over there. We had the voice, but the client wanted the instrumental to reflect the original a little more closely, so we recreated the horn parts as samples and built them into the silky smooth 808s that helped make up the backing track. A spontaneous remote recording session between Lille and Hamburg while Angie was on tour was also not a problem. Finally it we had to develop and tweak the sound design and tackle the final mix for the TV and SoMe assets. Une petite sensation!
